Climate risks and adaptation to climate change of the Waste Sector in France

Objectives

Against a backdrop of climate change, with a warming trajectory of +4°C defined for France by the end of the century, all stakeholders are called upon to work together to define and implement an action plan for adapting to climate change, in addition to the mitigation measures taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The aim of this study is therefore to provide a first level of insight into the waste sector in France (metropolitan France and the French overseas territories), namely: i) to take stock of what is known about the impact of climate change on the waste sector, ii) to map out the climate risks for the various waste treatment sectors in France (metropolitan France and the French overseas territories), iii) to put forward recommendations for adaptation action by treatment sector, which can be used to draw up a corresponding adaptation trajectory.
