This study is being carried out in the context of the growing development of bio-based materials and increasingly pressing questions about their environmental performance. Focusing on three user sectors (construction, transport and packaging), the study takes stock of the regulations affecting the development of biobased materials, their technical and commercial development, and the tools available to assess the environmental performance of biobased products.
The work also led to the organisation of three workshops (one for each application sector) with all the players in the value chains in order to: identify the favourable and unfavourable conditions for the development of biobased materials, and draw up recommendations for manufacturers on the points to focus on in the future to enable the integration and widespread use of biobased materials. All of this information has been used to draw up an overview of the tools and information available, to analyse them critically, and to translate them into purchasing procedures and operational recommendations.
