Volatile compounds in waste: source, flows, classifications

Summary

This study is part of the RECORD projects aimed at improving knowledge of the protection of employees in the waste sector, and more specifically here, of the risks associated with inhalation exposure to certain hazardous substances. Based on a review of the literature and feedback from network partners, 24 volatile substances (solvents and metals), CMR* category 1 or 2 or with a restrictive VLEP*, were selected. A data sheet has been produced for each of these 24 substances. It provides information on the classification of the molecule, its toxicity, the channels of use and therefore the categories of waste concerned. It describes the applicable regulations and standards, and the personal protective equipment (PPE) for inhalation exposure. Where possible, it also includes data on inhalation exposure of waste treatment personnel.

* CMR: Carcinogenic, Mutagenic, toxic for Reproduction * VLEP: Occupational Exposure Limit Value

Keywords: substance dangereuse, CMR, VLEP, composé volatil, déchet, exposition par inhalation, filière d'utilisation, hazardous chemical, CMR, occupational exposure limit value, volatile compound, waste, exposure by inhalation, uses
