Attribution of the hazardous status for some conditionned entries of the european wastes list

Summary

The aim of this study is to validate the technical proposals resulting from the exploratory phase of study 02-0126/1A carried out on five waste groups with conditional entries. Three groups have been selected for this experimental phase, which consists of testing the feasibility of the methodologies selected for each group. For group 2, it is useful to mention to the analytical laboratories that the waste contains cyanides and, when this is the case, that the waste is a soluble salt. For group 5, sampling alone is tricky and requires sorting to enable grinding and correct sub-sampling. For group 4, in addition to verification of the criteria for access to hazardous waste landfill (verification of the leaching limit values of the 19/12/02 decision), the methodology proposes different stages for assessing the level of retention of pollutants contained in the initial waste in order to show both the stable and non-reactive nature [for access, as partially stabilised (still hazardous), to non-hazardous waste landfill], and the fully stabilised nature. The latter requires verification of the same criteria as before, but with more stringent limit thresholds.
