Here you will find an original piece of work that provides a well-founded analysis of the limits of material recycling throughout the recycling chain. The focus is on technical and environmental limitations. After identifying the different types of limits in the major recycling sectors, a specific analysis by material then takes into account the technical and health limits and the order of magnitude of the "environmental balance" of recycling. In the 2nd part, 4 case studies deal with the specific problems of 4 types of recycled materials: high-density polyethylene (HDPE) in the presence of polypropylene (PP), barrier layers on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, copper contamination of steel and, finally, recovery of B wood.
