This study provided an opportunity to explore the multi-disciplinary issues that are necessary for a better understanding of the waste problem. It highlighted the 'weakness' of economic, sociological and legal disciplines in this area. A bibliography on these subjects is essential, given the lack of use of work already carried out and little or poorly disseminated. A truly multi-disciplinary approach requires innovative practices in terms of organizing research: choice of subjects, organisations involved, choice of research teams, monitoring of research, reporting of results.
