This study is prompted by the sharp increase in the number of buildings and equipment containing mineral fibres (particularly asbestos) being renovated or deconstructed, by changes in regulations, and therefore by the need for companies faced with the management of asbestos waste to be familiar with the issue. It begins with a presentation of the health risks associated with different types of fibrous materials. This is followed by a critical analysis of asbestos removal and deconstruction procedures for structures and equipment. Specific cases are analysed. These two stages are used to define the end-of-life flows of fibrous materials to be treated. This leads to the heart of the study: a forward-looking critical review of technologies for treating asbestos waste and FMA* materials. This review includes a complete mapping of treatment processes as well as a detailed and critical presentation of the most promising innovative technologies. As it progresses, the study also suggests avenues for reflection that should lead to R&D work.
